Thirty years ago, the Black Crowes, led by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, released their debut album “Shake Your Money Maker”. The album was, as Rolling Stone described it, “a guitar cracker that marries southern R&B crunch with the Anglo-Saxon attitude.”

In a time when reporters mourned the death of rock when nerdy pop and hair metal dominated the charts, the Black Crowes came out of Atlanta to resurrect it. The genuinely gritty blues-rock album, whose title is a tribute to blues legend Elmore James, went double platinum in the first year. Needless to say, in a pre-social media and pre-smartphone world, the rapid rise to stardom coupled with a cavalier attitude has led to utter chaos.

During their early years, The Black Crowes had toured with AC / DC rock legends Robert Plant and Aerosmith, and their first Rolling Stone cover told a firsthand account of the notoriously kicked off tour group ZZ Top for their opposition to the establishment, anti-business rants on stage. Their story has the common threads of any famous band: bad label deals, addiction, breakups and band make-ups, epic sold-out tours – including one where Jimmy Page joined the band – as well. as marriages and divorces, while releasing a prolific eight studio albums, four live albums and selling over 35 million records.

The two things that make and break the band have always been the dueling rock star brothers. Chris and Rich wrote several hit songs before the age of 23, while sadly struggling with their entire careers. The group decided to go their separate ways in 2013, with each brother vowing never to play or speak together again.

Then, in November 2019, radio legend Howard Stern, one of the early supporters of the Black Crowes, shocked rock fans and journalists by announcing the reunion of Chris and Rich Robinson. On February 13, 2020, the five-time platinum album “Shake Your Money Maker” celebrated the 30th anniversary of its release. The brothers are touring again as The Black Crowes, playing the record from start to finish.
